It is not an image because there is no link attached to it, I cannot change its color, it behaves like a vector in some ways but an image in other ways. I'm learning InDesign and have been trying to figure out what this is for hours now.

This looks like a placed vector path, or possibly an image. What does it say in the Layer's panel?

It's clearly contained in a frame since the cropping changes when you use the Content Grabber.

You are correct, after messing around in the layers panel I was finally able to delete the rectangle it was trapped in and now I'm able to recolor and edit it, thank you!
