i have a heading with a paragraph style. i made a Grep to apply a character style:
I have a TOC that is displaying that word in bold italic,:
but i am telling it to apply italic:
WHY is the TOC doing this?
thank you

@JonathanArias Hmmm. Could be just that headline sentence (Key features...) is wonky. I've had to retype the text directly in sometimes to fix this. Assuming it's only happening in your TOC to this specific heading, try taking off the GREP style as a test. Highlight all the H2 text on that page and reapply the H2 style (which I'm assuming is in bold), making sure there are no character overrides. Then, apply the italics portion via a character style. Regenerate TOC. Let us know! Oh - and I'm sure you checked that your TOC style doesn't have the GREP style applied?

Hi,
please show the register General and Basic Character of your "toc subhead" style and the same of your "ital" style. And another one of selected text in "toc subhead" with visible character and paragraph panel.
Or do you have a sample file with a more appetizing theme for us?

Hi Jonathan,
inspect both character styles.
FWIW: Your GREP pattern should be:
N\. gonorrhoeae
It should work like that:

A dot denotes any character.
If you want a dot you have to escape it.
See "Any Character" in that list:

A dot in Grep means -> any character.
You have to "escape" the period to address a real dot character -> \.
