Cannot find any documentation on where where the add master page option was moved to. I can add parent pages but not master pages - Is this a new feature? what is the difference between master and parent pages?

Parent pages are the new master pages. Other than the name change, everything is the same.  Some might decry this as a PC change, but it does make sense when using based-on masters. Typically, these are referred to as "parent/child" relationships.

Hi Alan, see this What's New page for InDesign 2022 version 17.0: https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/using/whats-new/2022.html Modified nomenclature to promote diversity and inclusion We have replaced non-inclusive terminology to support core Adobe values of diversity and inclusion. From InDesign 2022 (version 17.0) onwards, you'll reference Parent pages (called Master pages earlier) for applying page layouts, design, and style. Regards, Uwe Laubender ( ACP )

Of course it's a PC change; Adobe's own documentation states this, with the reasoning of "inclusive language."

And respectfully, it does NOT make sense.

In nearly all computer nomenclature that I can quickly think of, a PARENT is an object, which has linked sub-objects called CHILDREN. Whereas a MASTER is the "reference that others are based on."

The top of a linked group, is the PARENT. The sub-objects are CHILDREN. This does NOT mean that the CHILD objects inheret all attributes of the PARENT; often, they retain their own sub-attributes.

Similarly, a MASTER volume is the overall volume of a mix. The names of PARENT and CHILD, in context of editing, mean completely different things than MASTER.

Is Premiere going to soon have PARENT audio tracks, instead of MASTER tracks? Will performing a final mix be called "Create PARENT mix?"

This is an incredibly ill-conceived change.

It's ONE word change. Is it that much of a big deal even if it makes ONE person happier? I have more important things to worry about.

Is the Adobe Master Collection 2021 soon to be renamed the Adobe Parent Collection? 😉

Will Depeche Mode be remastering (sorry, reparenting) their classic hit with new lyrics? "Let's play...parent and child..." Wait, that sounds even worse...strike that...

Hi Alan,

see this What's New page for InDesign 2022 version 17.0:

I don't care what they call it, but the implementation could use some help. Perhaps to avoid confusion, Adobe could go through all the doucumentation on all of their sites, tutorials and videos that refer to Master Pages and change them to something like "Parent Pages - Previously Called Master Pages".

I agree with the documentation and written tutorials--that wouldn't be too hard to update. I doubt anyone will be redoing to many videos, but perhaps the closed captions could read "Master pages are now called Parent pages".

Adobe has already done that with some of their online reference materials. Now the text reads "Parent pages are previously known as Parent pages."

Because apparently someone just did a find/replace with the word Master on the whole site. It's quite hilarious, actually.
