Unmapped Comments / Markers Not Showing in InDesign

I am rather new to InDesign, but I have been trying to test out the share for review function and using comments in the asset that is shared on the web.

My test comments using any of the markers (pin, highlight, strikethrough, replace text, and draw) do not display the markers themselves in InDesign. When clicking on the comment in the Review window in InDesign, the text is sometimes highlighted, but gives no other visual indication as to what the comment is.

These comments sometimes show as "unmapped" also, but seem to vary for no particular reason. They're currently mapped to a spread now though.

Attached two screenshots of web view and InDesign view.

Thank you,
Nick

Hi @nrober,

Thank you for reaching out and providing details about your issue. Let's troubleshoot this together!

To better understand and assist you, could you please share the following details:

  1. Which version of InDesign are you currently using?
  2. Are you on macOS or Windows, and which version?
  3. Is the shared file a regular InDesign document (.INDD), or was it exported from another source?

A few additional questions to pinpoint the problem:

  • Are all the comments consistently showing as "unmapped," or does this occur randomly?
  • Does this issue persist across all documents, or is it specific to one file?
  • Have you tried updating or re-uploading the document to the "Share for Review" feature?

For now, I recommend ensuring your InDesign is updated to the latest version and restarting your machine before testing again. Also, confirm that the markers (e.g., pins, highlights) were correctly placed in the web interface before syncing back to InDesign.

Let me know what you find, and we’ll proceed from there!

Thanks,

Abhishek Rao

  1. 20.0.1
  2. Windows 11 Education 22H2
  3. Regular InDesign doc
  4. Additional
  • The unmapped comments were random. They are all mapped at the moment, but were not just earlier during testing.
  • I just created a blank document with some test text and the comment markers are showing there.
  • I have updated the content through share for review a few times.

I restarted my computer and the issues still persist with the original document.
Thank you for your fast response!

Hi @nrober,

Thank you for the update! Could you try copying the content from the original file into a new InDesign document and then test the issue again? This can help determine if the problem is document-specific.

Let me know how it goes!

Best,
Abhishek Rao

Try IDMLing - export as IDML, open, save with a new name - do not overwrite your original file.
