How do I get rid of the utterly useless font filter panel that has popped up on my screen, obscuring all the panels I need to use? It will not let me close or move it and serves no purpose whatsoever. The only way I have found to get rid of it is to close InDesign but then it randomly decides to return.

Hey @lisat36639973,
That floating font filter panel looks troublesome.
Could you share which version of InDesign and macOS you’re using? Also, could you confirm whether you are connected to an external monitor?
If you haven’t already, try resetting InDesign preferences to see if that clears the issue. You can follow the steps here: Reset InDesign Preferences. Just make sure to back up your preferences before resetting (instructions are in the article).
Let me know how it goes, and we’ll take it from there!

Thank you Abhishek. I had reset InDesign preferences everytime I've closed and reopened it. It works for a while then it all the other bugs return (cursor and pages flying at speed when I try to carefully move to another part of a single page for example). Since posting the above I closed InDesign and restarted with shift, control, option and command keys down yet again.
The panel re-emerged briefly when I tried to change the weight of a font using the top left tool on the [printing and proofing] workspace menu but fortunately disappeared when I went back to the text I was working to try another method to change that font. Which reminds me that what I just described is another bug I've only found in the past week.
Am wondering if this bug is a reaction to a Word document I've been trying to work with for a client. They sent me a 70 page report and my attempts to strip out the formatting (numerous Word style sheets with multiple footnotes etc) was proving a nightmare. I'd tried to strip this out in Pages first but it was taking so long I thought I'd just let InDesign deal with it. In short, it failed.

Hi Lisa,
Try clicking on InDesign > Preferences > Type > Type Options > and turn off "Enable In-Menu Font Previews"
Possibly also turn off "Preview Font on Hover"

I'll try that too! Thank you.
