Using Indesign 4 Photo Captions Disappear When Placed in Text Area

I'm using Indesign because I own it on window 7.  I've been using this setup for years.  I'm working on a document that is several pages long and each page has 2 columns.  All through out the document I have photos that I've placed in the text area that has text in it..  Then I create a text box under the photo and type in the caption.  Most of the time this works perfectly, then I "group" the picture and the caption and finally set the text wrap and adjust the margins around the picture and caption.

However,  I have a picture that I've placed in a text area,  and created the text box for the caption.  When I start to type the caption into the text box, as soon as the text goes over the main text box for that column the text for the caption disappears.

If I move the grouped picture and caption off to the white board then the captions appear.

I've tried deleting the picture and caption, and replacing the picture and adding the caption.  The caption still disappears.  I've made sure the main text column is "sent to back" and the picture and caption block are "sent to front".  But the caption still doesn't show.

I've move the picture and caption out of the column and move the main text column out of the way to see if I had a text or graphic area defined behind where the main text column,  picture and caption are placed.

Nothing visable there.

I've attached a picture of the page I'm working on.  You can see the picture in the upper left corner of the 2nd page, there is a capation that is started below the picture and offset to the left.  On the right side in the white board you can see what the caption is supposed to say "Mac Marking Where The Shade Mounts Should be".  But as you can see under the picture, that's not the case.

Any ideas/help anyone can give would be greatly appreciated.  If anyone want's to see what I really have, I'm willing to send my indd file and all the pictures for the layout.

I just can't seem to figure out what I'm doing wrong.

TIA,

John

It's hard to be certain, but it looks as if your main text frame has text wrap applied that is pushing the caption-frame text aside.

That's the only explanation.

Can you select TextFrame of the main story - and press Ctrl+Alt+W?

You hit the nail on the head!!!  Thanks so much!!  I've been using Indesign 4 for years, but I'm just a hobbiest and still have a lot to learn about it.

Thanks so much!!!!!
