Variable fonts broken in InDesign on macOS Monterey?

Ever since upgrading to macOS 12 Monterey, variable fonts have been broken for me in InDesign. I can use the font, but the variable slider has no effect.

The same font works fine in Illustrator on the same machine, running 12.3. The variable slider is there and works fine.

The same font works fine running InDesign on another machine still running Big Sur.

So it's macOS 12 and InDesign. Specifically I am running InDesign 17.1 but I went back and tried previous versions too with no luck, same result.

Is variable font support broken for anyone else?

Is there anything I can do?

Sadly, I cannot test, as I am holding off on 12.3 since it has been notoriously problematic. That being said, variable works for me 12.2.1 with ID 17.2

Try resetting your preferences:
The easiest way to reset everything is to delete the InDesign preferences: as soon as InDesign starts to boot hold down Shift, Alt, Ctrl (and Apple/Cmd if working on a Macintosh). A dialog will appear asking to delete the InDesign Preferences, select 'Yes' on this dialog.
