What is going on with indesign for M1 legacy files!?

What is happening with indesign for M1 chip - does it actually have any relatrionship to the intel based Indesign (15.1.3 or 14.0.1), because the intel imac simply wont open an idml file created by a new imac M1. This is absolutely ridiculous when working in a studio environment - sharing files remotely between macs. Is there any solution to this - short of everyone buying an M1 - as it's totally impossible.

This sounds like a serious issue which should be reported as a bug at the very least. You can submit this as a bug at https://indesign.uservoice.com/forums/601180-adobe-indesign-bugs.

One thing you could check... can the M1 itself reopen the IDML it made? It's a test which might reveal something...

Yes. We tried that and it will open on M1 mac. Tried shutting down and reinstalling Indesign but no joy. 

The idml worked on a one year old imac which had a newer version of Indesign due to older mac not being compatible to upgrade version, but not with M1 imac??
