Why is footnote causing leading problem

Explorer ,

I have a footnote marker in a shaded paragraph that is shifting the line down. The same leading is applied to the footnote marker as the rest of the paragraph and changing the superscript to regular doesn't work to fix the problem, but it's not happening in every paragraph with the same style applied. Screenshot shows difference between footnotes 2 and 4.  Any ideas?

Thanks much!

For the footnote marker you define a character style. Don't define any leading in this style. A character style should only be specified in aspects which are different from the hosting paragraph. All other options must remain empty.
