Windows 'preview' in open dialogue on left hand side

This is an odd one but something I have only noticed with illustrator and indesign.

Sometimes (not always) when I got to place a file the open dialogue appears and I have preview turned on. When I select a file it should show me a preview within the open dialogue box.  However the preview shows in the far top left of the screen.

It only does it in adobe apps, and it only does it with PDFS, jpegs etc show within the open dialogue.

Clearly a bug that needs squashing.

That really sounds a lot more like a system shell issue than an application bug. Some screenshots might provide a better understanding.
