Won't relink to new extension

Hi

I can't get InDesign to relink to .jpg versions of .tif files, using the 'relink to extension' feature. I've tried with/without the period (.jpg / jpg), and copy/pasting the extension, rather than type, but InDesign refuses to relink. I even tried linking to a .png version – that failed too.

The filenames are identical, aside from the suffix, and are in the same location as the original .tif versions, but still no joy.

Am I missing something, or doing something wrong?

Yes... of course the link has to be stable. It cannot and will not replace if the link is not already set. Gotta fix all your links first. You have correctly identified your issue. -Dax

Can you take a screenshot of the dialog box? Have you tried a new document and image set to see if you can get it to work at all? How about a new location?

Hi maxwithdax

I've just discovered that the link will relink to the new extension, but only if the link isn't broken. To aid identifying which links had changed, I'd moved the .tif version out of the Links folder; once I put them back, I could relink to the .jpg versions.

Not had a chance to check with another file yet, but will do. Here's my dialog …

hi hello,

been battling with that problem with the past few days. After reading this exchange I tried to convert my files from rgb jpg to cmyk tiff using the batch option of photoshop by running it on the very links folder of the package exporting the indesign artwork, links and fonts. I was hoping that from what you said the link would not be broken but again I got the same frustrating answer which I got for the past few days: failed to find the links.

I tried everything I could think of and am really running out of options. Help...
