Word import preset not saving "Import as Static Text" checkbox state

Hi

We are typesetting a publication with two different styles of endnotes and to achive what is required we want to import some articles normally and some with the endnotes as static text. We made two presets; one with the "Import as Static Text" checkbox toggled on and the other with it off. However, moving between the two presets it is clear that the "Import as Static Text" settings is not saved by the preset, which is a suprise to say the least. Looking inside the .smp file which is created I see no preference which could be saving this setting. 

I have never come across this before and couldn't see any discussion online, except when this setting was mentioned in relation to a script someone was using to import Word files - maybe to workaround this very problem. Are there any solutions/workarounds to get the preset to work?

Thanks for sharing the detailed explanation of the issue. To better understand and investigate this, could you please confirm the exact version of InDesign you're using (from Help > About InDesign) along with the details of your operating system?

Also, if possible, a short screen recording showing the behavior you're experiencing, such as switching between presets and the "Import as Static Text" checkbox not retaining its state, would be really helpful for us to review and check further with the team.

I'm running MacOS Sonoma 14.7.4 (ID v19.5) plus we have also seen this on Windows 10 (22H2, OS build 19045.5854) Indesign v19.5 x64 (and also v20.0.1 x64). 

I have attached a screen recording demonstrating that the "Import as Static Text" checkbox is sticky, but is not saved in the preset.

Thanks again for sharing the detailed info and the screen recording.

I tested this on my end in both InDesign 19.5.4 and 20.3.1 and was able to reproduce the same behavior you described. I've reached out to the product team to confirm whether this is expected behavior or something that needs to be addressed.

Glad it is not just me! From a user's perspective if it is in a window where you can save a preset all the settings should be saved in that preset. Yes please let me know the outcome.

Thanks again for your patience.

I've heard back from the product team, and they've confirmed that this is indeed a bug. The issue with the “Import as Static Text” setting not being saved within Word import presets is now being logged for investigation. The team is actively working on it.

I'll keep you posted as soon as there's any update.
