Annoyances With Form Fields

Hello Everyone,

I am currently experiencing some technical issues when creating form fields within InDesign.

In a nutshell I am using book files for account applications for my company that consists of numerous forms and documents that a client needs to fill in. An issue that I am running into is that when a client fills in one form field, another may fill in with the same information.

I am aware that form fields need to have different names, but I was curious if there is a way to ensure that each form field has a different name across ALL documents within the book file. Clicking and renaming each form field is extremely tedious and time consuming. Would love any help or suggestions!

You might want to consider something more robust, like Experience Manager which used to be called LiveCycle. It is used to make super-sophisticated branching PDF forms.

"when creating form fields within InDesign"

You might use a mandatory prefix in front of every field name — either the chapter number or a few letters:

01_firstname

02_firstname

03_firstname

and disallow "first name" by itself.
