API/Framework?

After contacting the Apple community about how to discard or at least hide the unwanted system fonts, I got this reply:

You can ask the developers of the software you use to not display them. Apple provided an API/Framework for them to use.

I have no idea what this means or how to implement it. Does Adobe provide this service somewhere?
