Can I edit an images with ".ai" format directly from indesign ??

good afternoon everone, 

I'm placing an images with ".ai" format using javasciprt and the designers wants to edit the images dirctly from indesign, they don't want the indesign to redrict them to illustator ;

so i'm wondering are there any way or code that i can use so they can be able to edit the images dirctly from indesign without the need of illustrator??

You cannot modify ai files in InDesign. The only way should to copy from Illustrator and paste in the InDesign file, but it is not recommended, specially with complex files.
