Cannot Save Document. Must use Save As and Rename.

When I try to save my document, I receive a pop-up that states "Cannot save because document is open in other application." But it isn't. The only thing I can do is Save As, which I don't want to do because then every time I save, I have another version. This has happened sporadically with several different documents.

It's not a bad thing to have multiple versions. We often encounter users who haven't done this and wish they had because their single version has become corrupt over time. We always recommend creating incremental backups.

In this case, confirm that you have read/write privileges on that drive. If you do, rebuilding preferences/cache may be the next step.
