Now I managed to get the computer connected to the internet. It makes no difference in the inability to activate the self-deactivated InDesign. Even though I get a two-logo confirmation that I'm signed in to the activation servers, and am connected to the internet, the activation windows says "No Connection."

The activation servers for CS3 were shut down some time ago. Your only hope is contacting Adobe directly to see if they can help but don't count it.
