Hi everyone, Hope you are safe.

We are new to InDesign client and server.

We have to generate accessible PDFs using InDesign server via scripting/API.

We have CS5.5 server installed and able to create PDFs with custom images from InDesign templates.

Questions:

1) How to generate accessible PDF using Indesign server CS 5.5?

2) How to change/include alt-text while generating the PDF from CS 5.5 server?

Thanks in advance.

Siva.

Hi Siva,

I think, that InDesign CS5.5 is too old to get what you want.

For some specific tasks like setting the document title you have to use InDesign CC 2015 and above.

Or scripting in Acrobat Pro.

You can do JavaScript with Acrobat Pro and there is also an SDK for plug-in development.

Thank you so much for the links Laubender.

Just want to confirm:

Is it possible/allowed to do the following atleast by using the latest InDesign Server (2020 release of Adobe® InDesign® Server) (Not with the InDesign desktop installation)

1) Generate accessible PDFs?

2) Change alt text in the indesign template designed in InDesign desktop?

Thanks in advance,

Siva.

Hi Siva,

I'd test that with the desktop version of InDesign first, then with an installation of InDesign 2021 Server.

DOM documentation for ExtendScript compiled by Gregor Fellenz can be found here:

https://www.indesignjs.de/extendscriptAPI/indesign-latest/#about.html

Could be that you cannot do all necessary steps with InDesign alone.

You have to work through the Matterhorn Protocol and the tagged PDF best practice guide from the PDF association.
