Color picker and eyedropper crashes InDesign - modal dialog or alert is active error

Only happens on my work computer (MacBook Pro) everytime I use the color picker it will not work and will come up with the following error: Cannot handle the request because a modal dialog or alert is active. There is no alert, the program freeze sometimes letting me cancel but without the color picker working. Or I have to force quit the program. Doesn't happen on my other home laptop, only my work MacBook. When I use the eyedropper, not the color picker, it will work for a time before the entire program then quits unexpectantly. Anyone running into this issue? I've seen solutions like clearly preferences, but I have no preferences saved as I just began using this computer recently. I also uninstalled and reinstalled to not avail. I need to be able to use this tool as intended and this is extremely frustrating!

Hi there,

  • Is the issue related to a specific document? If yes, could you please share the document with us? You can upload it to the Creative Cloud (https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/share.html) and share the download link.
  • Where are the files saved (Network Drive/ System HDD/ Shared Folder on System /External HDD)?
  • When did this start happening? Are there any recent changes made to your system? For example, any antivirus, system updates or web extensions installed recently.

Try booting the system into Safe Mode (https://helpx.adobe.com/in/x-productkb/global/start-safe-boot-mode-mac.html) and check how it works there. It starts your system so that it performs certain checks and prevents third party software/ services from automatically loading or opening. If it works fine in Safe mode, then there is some third party service or application like antivirus, plugins or web extensions which are conflicting with the InDesign.

Regards,

Srishti
