Command x doesn't work

I am running Indesign (2020 - 15.0.2) on a Mac running Catalina 10.15.1 and for some reason Command x has stopped working. It doesn't matter if it's an object or text.

I can copy and paste but not 'cut'.

This also happens in Illustrator (2020).

Is this a known fault and if so, does anyone know how to fix it?

Thank you

Since this is happening in more than one program it seems likely that it could be hardware related. If you have another keyboard try hooking it up and see if the problem persists. As strange as that sounds I have actually had this turn out to be the solution to a similar problem.

Does the Menu Command under the Edit Menu still work?

OK, I'll give that a go - there's the original bluetooth keyboard around here somewhere...
