So novice question, how to have separate stories (quicker than searching online).

  1. Draw a new text frame with the Type tool. 
  2. Place a new document with nothing selected.

And how does the text flow then occur.. Are we back to THAT again? Would prefer the Master take care of it as previously always ran into some error ("inflight"?) check error.

Hi astropainter,

what text flow exactly?

 

Can you show some screenshots that are showing what you like to do?

Is there any text you like to flow in existing text frames?

 

[1] If you have text overflow you can always pick up the overflow and load the cursor with the text.

From that you can draw out a new text frame and the text will flow from one frame to another.

[2] To automate this you could use the so-called "Primary Text Frame" that will be positioned in advance on a master page.

 

Also test the following options that would allow InDesign to add pages when text flows in:

Preferences > Type > Smart Text Reflow

There you have some options you could experiment with.

 

Without knowing anything about your layout I cannot recommend a distinct workflow.
