Data merge smallest PDF

Hello, ID 2021 is data merging and exporting huge PDF's and I am trying to correct this.

I use data merge to create files with 1,000-50,000 pages and for whatever reason the newer version of ID takes forever. They are only text records 2x3 inches. Typically it will output a 9,999 page PDF that is 11mb's which can be reduced to 200k in acrobat.

Is there a way to improve this? I am waiting 30 minutes on a good computer for data merge to complete and another 30 to export and then another 10 min to reduce the file size in acrobat when the whole process should be sub 5 min because it is all text records.

If they are that simple, have you considered using Word?

Otherwise, since the pages will have a common background, Acrobat is good at recognising that and putting in a shared graphics used by all pages. Don't think InDesign can do that.

Thanks, I am just used to using ID because its so easy to get the placement perfect for data printing. Word does the trick but its less flexible when it comes to placing different data fields.
