Different versions of same font

When working with a font somehow a box appeared allowing me to different versions of various letters with in the font.  I would select a choice and it would highlight the letter and modify it slightly.  It was really cool and I have no idea how I did it and I want it back.  HELP!

Hi Lindsey,

you may refer to the feature Type Contextual Controls that can be reached through InDesign's preferences.

See: Preferences > Advanced Type > [x] Show for Character Alternates, Fractions, Ordinals and Ligatures

This option is enabled by default.

It will depend on the applied font if character alternates are available.

Regards,
Uwe Laubender

I agree with Derek that you're probably referring to the Glyphs Panel. I just want to point out that Open Type fonts are particularly great if you want to really get the full benefits of the glyph panel. These cross platform fonts provide far more alternative characters than True Type or (mostly extinct) Postscipt Type 1 fonts. For more information see: https://www.adobe.com/products/type/opentype.html.
