Document save changes*

Why, when I've literally just opened a document, do I see the * after the document name, meaning I have to save or discard changes to said document, when I haven't even done anything!!!? It's a little thing but once I've done it about 50 times (not an exageration) in a day it gets a little tiresome.

this is normal behavior when opening for the first time files created in a previous version of Indesign
