Hi there,
It happens that I have a client file sent to me (an indesign doc) which is now empty. Anyone has a trouble shoot how to recover it? there are supposed to be images and texts inside.
Thank you in advance.

Indesign files are normally not send over like this, but are packaged and then send together with all the connected files. Is the file also empty at the customer's site?

I am aware that Indesign files are packaged. Nevetheless, it is not the issue. There's not even an image or text box, but there are layers so it can be seen, that the file is somewhat incomplete.

@Deleted User Have you been able to recover your file information yet or get another working copy from your client? It's possible the person sending it to you didn't export it properly with all the fonts and assets included which is done in a "package" export file folder that is typically then zipped and sent to you to extract so you can set up the document on your end. Let us know if you are still having trouble so we can try to help you. Do you have a PDF of the document to inspect what the content is in case it has to be recreated? Also, let us know what version of InDesign you are using and what your operating system is.

See my answer to Abambo above. The issue is not that the font is not properly exported, there is basically nothing in the doc.

What is the size of the file and what is the extension? If the extension is idlk, it's an InDesign Lock file — a temporary file that didn't get deleted when InDesign closed. It might be something else, but check this first.

Hi @Deleted User:
I would just reach out to the client, let them know the .indd is empty, ask them to package it (as per @Abambo) using File > Package, zip the folder and then resend it.
If the .indd file was delivered empty, it sounds like the issue was on their end, and not yours.
