Empty video box that appears in PDF downloaded from online publication

I have a video in a brochure that I published online.

When people download the pdf, they just see an empty box where the video should be.

Is there a way to get an image or text to appear in that box in the PDF version?

Thanks for any suggestions

No, just a static PDF -- I assume you're talking about InDesign's Publish Online.

Is there a way to have text appear over the static video box in the PDF to direct the viewer to the website where they can view the video

I wouldn't think so, in fact you have to be careful to check which screen view the PDF captures, for example the end of an animation might look strange.
