EPUB Export Errors (Text and Image)

Ive just spend my whole day getting rid of two bugs i ran into when exporting EPUBS.

For some strange reason i got an error message when exporting, telling me that i may have low memory or disc space "Error Formating image "xxxx.png"...." and an error about a text anchor.

The text anchor problem was easy:

I copied some text (including a URL linked word within that text) from an older version of the document into the new one. That text somehow referenced the URL link from the origin (the older version of the project) when exporting as EPUB and couldnt make sense of it, so it gave an error. So to fix it, i had to go to the Interactive/Hyperlinks and delete the link and create the same link again. Looks the same, is the same.. but works now

The Formating image error was harder:

I did a lot between the new and the older version that didnt give me an error so i tried to find out were the faulty page was. First i tried deleting pages and exporting epubs to see if the error stays.. i ended up deleting all pages that had any images in them (no images in Links panel left).. still the error prompted me to a faulty png. So i started deleting pages without any images and i found the faulty one. There was a lot of objects and text but no image whatsoever and on this page there has never been an image file. So i started deleting stuff on that page. While i was doing that i hit A to select all and at one point i saw the selection box hanging on to ... nothing on one site. That "nothing" was responsible and after i deleted an object plus that "nothing" and pasted my other copied objects back in, the error disapeared.

That was a wasted day for me.. i hope at least one will read this in time to safe his/her day.

Yap i was able to solve it myself with no problems left that could need help with. Just wanted to share it because it took me some time to figure it out and a post like this could have saved me a few hours.

sounds like you were able to troubleshoot your issues.

Yes Epub are not easy, yes, there is troubleshooting to do, this is normal.

have you validated your file?

this is the gold standard for doing so (if you are afraid of code, this is not for you):

https://github.com/w3c/epubcheck

if all of this information is new to you. i recommend you wantch this video course:

https://www.linkedin.com/learning/indesign-creating-fixed-layout-epubs/validating-the-epub?u=7682117...

these is also this:

https://www.pagina.gmbh/produkte/epub-checker/

this is an app you install, and you run your file via this to see what needs to be fixed.

since you were able to solve your own issues there is nothign to help with here? is there something you want us to help you with?

In order for others to find the correct answer there needs to be a correct answer, and the first post can't be it, reason is that ussually the first post is a question and people would not make a post to tell others they fix their issue [but you did that].

If you really want to help others maybe you want to show screenshots of the issue, how you fixed it and i can mark that as the correct answer.

thank you
