Hello,
InDesign has been working fine, but suddenly this morning I can't save / export / or even close a file. Almost all the options are greyed out. I've updated to the latest update on InDesign but it still keeps happening. It happens with all files, whether they are new or old.
Screenshot attached of the file menu.
Can somebody help?
Thanks

Firstly, I suggest you reset your InDesign preferences to see if that sorts out the issue.
1) Close InDesign
2) Double click on Adobe InDesign's icon to launch it
3) QUICKLY hold down Ctrl+Alt+Shift. (for Windows) or CTL+OPT+CMD+Shift (for Mac OS X)
4) When a dialogue appears, asking you “Delete InDesign Preference Files?” Click Yes.
(If you don't see the question do it again.)

Which version of InDesign and OS version?
How much RAM and spare disk capacity do you have?
Do you have a third-party plugin, such as a font manager, installed?

It's basically a brand new Macbook Pro, and I have been having trouble with InDesign ever since I got it. It keeps crashing all of a sudden, maybe 5/6 times a day. I've posted various threads on this website and tried various fixes but nothing works. I've still been able to work because even when it crashes I can normally just open it up again and continue to work.. but now, without being able to save / export / place etc I can no longer work.

You can take additional steps to rebuild preferences/cache, beyond the first level commands that Derek shared with you. Try working through the rest of this post:

Hi monstermunchmonster,
so this is a machine with the new M1 chip?
Read through this and try a new beta version of InDesign 16.3:
