I am using very latest InDesign 15.1.1

I have opened a file sourced from another designer, and wish to edit the text. Even when copying the spread contents to a fresh new .indd file, I am unable to:

> change the font type as it is greyed out/locked (even though I can adjust the style, eg medium, bold etc). All other features like leading, tracking, font size, alignment etc also disabled.

> edit the actual text or type additional text within all text boxes on the spread (although I can select, copy and paste it to another text box, as well as adjust text box dimensions)

I have tried unlocking all items on spread, as well as 'Override All Master Page Items'. Ive also played around with 'Prevent Selection of Locked Objects' in Preferences > General.

NOTHING works.

• Could the attached missing plugin have anything to do with it?

• Also, I downloaded the file from Woodwind (online file sharing/editing software) but other files downloaded from the same source have no such problem.

Can anyone help? Grateful thanks if you can!

Try the trick - save file as idml, open this idml and save as indd, open this new indd file. Is it works?

Yes, sure. This message warns you that the Woodwing (not Woodwind) smart connection plugin is missing. This plugin allows users to create InCopy assignments in the Woodwing environment.

As George wrote, export your file as idml to get rid of this message and to be able to edit the text.

Remember, never say you can't do something in InDesign, it's always just a question of finding the right workaround to get the job done. © David Blatner
