Help! I try to open ID and get the wheel of death

I've uninstalled and reinstalled, restarted my computer, ran disk repair, made sure I have enough start up space... but yet when I try to open the program it just shows a black box and the wheel of death. I've been lucky enough a few times to get to the point where it will let me open a document... but then I get the wheel of death again. What am I missing?

Which version is your OS and how much RAM do you have? When you mention you have uninstalled the software have you used the Adobe Cleaner before reinstalling InDesign again.
