How to copy footnotes across documents

I have a book composed of several documents.

The book has several footnotes, for which I have set the "Document Footnote Options".

The problem is I seem to have to set those options for every document - there doesn't seem to be a way to synchronize them across documents like you can styles.

Is there a way to do this?

Hi Rick,

no, there is no synch options for this from the InDesign Book panel.

Maybe you are able to find a script that can do this.

Best search the web.

Yes, that is what I had determined...

I have... that's why I'm asking.  There are threads that indicate there used to be a script solution,

but the links inside them are all 404s.

The footnotes aren't shareable, for some reason. However, if you assign styles to footnotes (creating paragraph and character styles), at least those will update.

Yes, and I have done that.

However, some of the options such as the leading space, the space between the reference number

and the footnote text, and the divider line attributes don't have paragraph counterparts.

Hi Rick,

before doing a book I am using a template document that already defines the footnotes and all relevant paragraph styles and character styles. And from that template I do all my other chapter documents. The thing left to do is to define the start number of the footnotes in every document individually ( that could be scripted ) .

So with your next project you could change your workflow to take account on this.
