How to modify spellcheck

Hi all! I recently updated to InDesign 16.0. Since then, when I try to run spellcheck, I keep getting the following: Words containing punctuation other than ending periods may not be added to the dictionary."

This happens when I have forced lines down to fix hyphenation issues. I went to the preferences for spellcheck, and didn't see an option to turn off so this doesn't happen. Any ideas? Thanks!
