Hyperlinks from placed PDFs

We use InDesign for page layout and would like our placed PDF advertising to have hyperlinks for our web edition.

I know the documentation says that placed PDFs don't import hyperlinks, but are there any plugins for InDesign or other workarounds that might work?

I can't understand why InDesign doesn't include the whole PDF, rather than just the artwork.

I usually build new hyperlinks in a textframe under the PDF ad. InDesign treats the PDF as art and the underlying hyperlink gives me the clickable workaround.
