I have just purchased  in design CS4 on ebay but my Mac say 

Setup.app” needs to be updated. could anyone help please

Almost certainly not. If you get a new Mac you also need the very latest software, Apple have made sure you can't buy old apps. And CS4 is a VERY VERY old app. The apps are now subscription only: Creative Cloud, from around US$50 per month.

I'm running OS X 10.15.5 so it don't work not to worry I have sent it back to the seller and been fully refunded.

Hi Pete,

InDesign CS4 can be installed and will run on e.g. OS X 10.6.8.

If you are very lucky also on OS X 10.10.

What's your operating system version?

No Acrobat won't work operating system OS X 10.15.5 so don't think I've much chance of it working 9 pro that is.
