Images in In-design are grey when I open a document. It happens at random times with ramdom documents. I have to restart my mac to get them back.
All my software is upto date and screen perfornace is set to high.
I have also run diagnostics to check hardware.
Any ideas?

Can you double check that you haven't reverted to Fast Display in View > Screen Performance.
Unless you set the Screen Performance with no document open, then close and reopen InDesign to reserve the setting, it will revert to the previous Screen Performance setting.

Screen performance is fast display, first thing I checked. Been using In-design 10 years, never had this before

If your setting is Fast Display it will give you grey images; reset your Screen Performance, with no documents open, to High Quality Display, then close and reopen InDesign. It should set it permanently.

Random thoughts:
- Check your Links panel to see if your images are linked and are ok.
- Get your computer checked to see if there's a hardware issue.
- Uninstall InDesign, using the Creative Cloud app, and run Adobe Cleaner before reinstalling InDesign.
