Hi I keep getting this import error. It has only just appeared today. I am using macOS Catalina 10.15.7 I am trying to import an image I just took on my iPhone. My In Design is 2020 version. I have uninstalled & reinstalled In Design but it still won't work. I am not very tech savvy and desperately need this fixed, I have an assessment due. You may need to change the way your iPhone camera is saving images to save them as JPEG. In newer macOS versions, the iPhone may save by default as HEIC, instead of JPEG. InDesign cannot read HEIC files. See this article for helping in changing your iPhone settings:

Then try to restore your InDesign preferences. InDesign should have no problem importing a JPEG:
