Import Layered PDF to InDesign Super Duper Slow

Hello!

I have a create an illustrator file with 6 artbaords and 55 layers. I have saved the file as a PDF. I am attempting to import the pdf into inDesign. I want to be able to toggle layers. However, the file take a very long time to import. When the I try to toggle a layer it becomes a crawl. Ant tips?

Why not just place teh AI File?

Wouldn't be any different, Eugene. You're still placing a PDF portion of the AI file.

I think it would make a difference. If you have saved the PDF without Illustrator editing capabilities the file structure might be more complex. 

With this amount of layers and artboards - it could possibly make a difference.

Why not let the user come back and let us know if making a difference or not?

What version of AI / ID. Did you accept the default PDF/x-4 settings when saving? What operating system? How much RAM?
