In Design - Pixelated Images - High Quality Display and +300DPI

Hi there!  I am running into a challenge with ID.  Images are 300DPI or greater, and Display Performance is set to High Quality in View, Object, AND Preferences.  In preview mode and when epxorted, the images are still pixelated.  Any idea how to fix this?

What is the Effective PPI, which you can establish in the Links panel?

The effective PPI ranges from 423 to 558 (there are four images - all are within these parameters).

Which format are you exporting to and how are you viewing it and at which magnification?

I'm exporting as an interactive PDF and viewing it on my screen at 100%.  The pixelation is visibly noticable in both In Design and on the interactive PDF.

Try changing the resolution to 144, or higher, PPI in the Export to PDF dialogue box under the Compression tab.

The resolution in the compression tab was set to 300 PPI - it is still pixelated.  Any other ideas?

Try embedding the images in InDesign just to see if it's a link, or something, issue.

if everything with export to PDF (Interactive) fails, do the following:

[1] Export to PDF (Interactive) with all your interactive elements.

[2] Export to PDF (Print) without downsampling images.

Open the PDF from [1] in Acrobat Pro.

Replace all pages in the PDF with the pages from the PDF from step [2].

Save to a new name. Your new PDF should keep all your interactive elements.

Now with highres images.

Try exporting the InDesign file to IDML then opening and saving again. If you have more than one version of InDesign installed see if this happens with all versions. Also see if the problem occurs on someone else’s installation.

Edit: One other possibility is that the images are actually pixelated. I don’t know anything about how you obtained these images. It might be that someone upsamples low resolution images because they were told they need to be 300 ppi. This would result in high resolution images that are pixelated.
