Hi, I have indesign CS6 and have purchased an online license for Indesign (16). After installing the latest version, all current files from the old version open automatically in the new version and this cannot be changed. This is a big inconvenience for me, because I have a lot of files that I have to open in the cs6 version and save in this one as well. How can this be changed? The system is windows 10 (latest version).

If you want to open a CC version of a document in CS6 save it as an IDML document.

In both Mac and Windows systems, the decision about which app to open is made based entirely on the file type. So all INDD files will open in the same app. You can choose the app, but you cannot make the system automatically work out which app.

My advice, when you have multiple apps installed to open files, is to ABSOLUTELY GIVE UP DOUBLE CLICKING as a method of opening files. This may be a hard habit to break, but it is harmful for you now.

LATEST

Hi Albert,

I absolutely agree with Test Screen Name.

Currently I have CS6 and some CC versions of InDesign installed on my Windows 10 machine.

Plus the latest beta version. And guess what, if I would do a double-click on an InDesign file the latest installed version would open it. And that's the beta one. So yes, I gave up double-clicking entirely some years ago.

Regards,
Uwe Laubender
