InDesign 2020 freezing with a 'pop' sound and the screen flashes

Recently I've been having a fonts issue since the 15.1.1 upgrade with a conflict where an Adobe font was activated that is a 'squared' off version of a rounded font I already have on my system. There's a bug detail post describing many other users experiencing similar issues:

It may be pure coincidence but InDesign has started freezing up (resulting in a Force Quit) and behaving oddly when exporting to PDF – showing spreads as single pages. The freezing up shows as a 'pop' sound and the screen flashes. It happened with Illustrator which normally recovered after a short period. I've already ditched the preferences so any other thoughts would be very welcome.

Sorry to hear about this trouble and delay in response. We have recently released an update for InDesign 2020 (v15.1.2) which contains some stability fixes. If you are not already on (v15.1.2), then we recommend you to update to the latest version and let us know how it goes.

 

If that doesn't help resolving the issue, please share a few more details like:

  • Operating System
  • When did this start happening? Are there any recent changes made to your system? For example, any antivirus, system updates or web extensions installed recently.
  • Is the issue related to a specific document? If yes, could you please share the document with us? You can upload it to the Creative Cloud (https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/share.html) and share the download link.
