I installed the official Big Sur OS 11.0.1 and updated InDesign to 16.0.77. The moment I click on an image file on a page in InDesign, the program crashes. Over and over. HELP!! Any work around that anyone knows of? On an iMac 2019. Ive restarted the computer, no help. Now so sorry I updated. Anyone, any ideas?

well, I scrolled down to a slightly different issue, but tried this, it worked, I am so very relieved! A Big thank you to Derek Cross!!!:

Tty resetting your InDesign preferences:

1) Close InDesign
2) Double click on Adobe InDesign's icon to launch it
3) QUICKLY hold down Ctrl+Alt+Shift. (for Windows) or CTL+OPT+CMD+Shift (for Mac OS X)
4) When a dialog appears, ask you “Delete InDesign Preference Files?” Click Yes.

(If you don't see the question do it again.)

I am also having real issues since installing Big Sur upgrade, InDesign just crashes or hangs with the spinning wheel of doom. I've had to package up the artwork and work off my 9 year old laptop instead to get the client work finished. I tried the above and it didn't resolve the issue for me, so not sure if anyone else has any other ideas, as it's affecting my business - and like KaneDesign I'm sorry I updated!

Thank you! This appears to have worked for me where uninstalling/reinstalling did not.

Every year we hear the same song when Apple release its new OS.
Always check the compatibility of your applications before upgrading the OS!

How do you expect Adobe to fix Big Sur? And if everything is crashing, I think I'd be looking at that machine.

If it's an M1, most applications are not fully compatible despite Apple's claim to the contrary.

I had this issue from Dec 13-14, 2021.  One particular InDesign file kept crashing.  I did the following:  Save As - to eliminate file bloat. (File Bloat is the condition whereby a file size grows everytime you make changes to the file).  File Rebuild - select all and pasted into a new doc.  These steps did not work.  But then I noticed this file had a pasted Adobe Illustrator paths in it.  Note:  I did not drag the Illustrator file into InDesign, rather I copied (Command C) from Illustrator and pasted (Command V) into InDesign.  The advantage of this method is that you could directly edit the pasted art in InDesign rather than going back to Adobe Illustrator because you are essentially pasting paths.  I had two files with Pasted AI paths, one was very complicated, multi-layered, multi effects, multi tranparencies and the other was just simple shape.  I noticed the problem file from Dec 13-14 had the complex AI paths and that crashed after 2 minutes of work.  The other InDesign file with the simpler AI path crashed but after 20 minutes of work.  So I went back the complex AI file, created a PDF and then placed that file in InDesign.  This solved the problem.  I didn't try placing the .ai file.  So in my particular case, directly pasted AI paths were the culprit.
