InDesign built PDF Form - Users can paste more text into field than the field size

We have built a PDF form in InDesign which is Adobe Reader enabled and available on a public website.

We have multi-line text fields which has the font size set to 12pt and we have turned off "scroll long text" so that users can only type enough text that will fit into the physical field size.

However, when users open the form via Google Chrome browser, they are able to paste MORE text than the size of the field and all of the text cannot be viewed.

We have to copy and paste the text out of the field and paste into a Word document or we have to edit each individual form and change the font size of the fields.

This issue is only happening in Google Chrome.

Does anyone know how to stop users being able to paste more text into a multi-line field, than the actual size of the field?

We have to have font size 12pt and we do not want the field to auto resize the font or auto expand the field.

Thanks

I have attached the PDF form or the form can be accessed via:  http://www.wdc.govt.nz/CommunitySafetyandSupport/FundingandGrants/Documents/Funding-Application-Form...

Once in Acrobat, you have extra capabilities not in InDesign. With a Text Field in Acrobat, you can set the maximum number of characters that can be input.

How do you work out how many characters will fit into the size of the multi-line text box?  I think we would need to untick 'scroll long text' also.

I thought there might of been a setting where you could set it so that users could not paste into the fields.  🙂

Thank you.

No, you can't. And one more thing - say to all your customers to work with your PDF from Adobe Reader. You can't fix all "bugs" from alternative readers. All that not Adobe Acrobat/Reader is an evil.

Remember, never say you can't do something in InDesign, it's always just a question of finding the right workaround to get the job done. © David Blatner
