InDesign CC - can not change colors, change fonts, or link text boxes

Im very confused with several problems using InDesign on my MAC computer in the last two days. I am a Creative Manager and have used InDesign 5-7 hours a day for the past 15 years.

I've found 3 issues so far...1) I can not change the color of type or a box by selecting selecting any color in the swatch pallete.  I can only change color by using the "Color Picker". However, if I click on the color in the "swatch" palette, then hold down the shift key and click the color again, it will change. 2) I can not change the typeface using the drop down options. I must manually type the specific font. The drop down works fine when in select the variations of the font (bold, italic, condense, etc). 3) I can not link text boxes by clicking on the  red box in the right corner of the text box.

I've unistalled InDesign, cleared cache and preferences, then reinstalled. Next I unistalled Adobe CC and all progams, then reinstalled and still have the same issues with InDesign (photoshop and illustrator work fine). I installed InDesign on my PC using my same Adobe CC credenitals and it works fine.

Anyone have any ideas?

Which version (exactly) of InDesign and OS?

How much RAM do you have?

Did you reset your InDesign preferences like this:

1) Close InDesign
2) Double click on Adobe InDesign's icon to launch it
3) QUICKLY hold down Ctrl+Alt+Shift. (for Windows) or CTL+OPT+CMD+Shift (for Mac OS X)
4) When a dialog appears, ask you “Delete InDesign Preference Files?” Click Yes.

(If you don't see the question do it again.)

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about your experience. I hope your issue is resolved now. If not, please reply with the details asked by Derek. In addition to response given by Derek, you may also follow the instructions to reset preferences of InDesign on help article https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/using/setting-preferences.html

**Please note that resetting preferences will remove all the custom settings and InDesign will launch with default settings. You can also take a backup of the folders in case you want to. Location is mentioned in the article.

If your issue is already resolved, you may share the solution here as it will help the other users as well. Looking forward to your response.

Regards,

Ashutosh
