Hi, as of last week my Indesign crashes every time I go to open a new document from the main starting page. The program starts up normally, and seems to work fine when opening existing documents. it just crashes every time I select 'new document'. Anyone know how to fix?

I'm on the latest indd cc19 and mac 10.14.3.

Hi Clare,

Thanks for reaching out. As per your query, InDesign is crashing the moment you are trying to create a new document. That doesn't sound like a typical experience and I understand how frustrating it could be. I would request if you can share a few more details like:

1. Try changing the default printer to Adobe PDF and let us know if that helps.

2. If not, try Resetting Preferences after backing up your settings:

  • Close all Adobe applications
  • Go to Locations:
  • ~/Library/Caches
  • ~/Library/Preferenc

2. If not, try Resetting Preferences after backing up your settings:

  • Close all Adobe applications
  • Go to Locations:
  • ~/Library/Caches
  • ~/Library/Preferences
  • Rename Adobe InDesign and com.adobe.indesign to Adobe InDesign.old and com.adobe.indesign.old
  • Launch InDesign from the CC

3. If that doesn't help either, try booting the system in Safe Mode (Start in Safe Boot mode for Adobe products on Mac OS X ) and check how InDesign works.

4. If nothing works, try logging in to Root account (How to enable the root user on your Mac or change your root password - Apple Support ) and let us know how InDesign works there. If InDesign works fine in Root account that means it could be related to permissions on InDesign folders. Try these steps to correct permission related errors on InDesign preferences folders.

  • Go to Terminal (Go > Utilities > Terminal.app)
  • Execute the following command on terminal to provide permission:
  • sudo chmod -R 777 /Users/<user>/Library/Preferences/Adobe InDesign
  • sudo chmod -R 777 /Users/<user>/Library/Caches/Adobe InDesign
  • sudo chmod -R 777 /Users/<user>/Library/Application Support

Looking forward to your response!

Regards,

Srishti
