InDesign Crashes daily. When I experience the crashes the only other application I have open is an email which is office 2019. When I check the event viewer for possible errors I only find these in the system at that time.

The system I am working on is a Precision with Dell optimizer V6.3.2 optimized for Creative Cloud applications. The analyzer only shows AVG Memory use is 14% and AVG GPU is 4%

Memory is 64 GB

Intel Zeon Silver 4114 @ 2.20 GHz

Can anyone help with this consistent failure?

Hi Bryan,

Sorry about the delayed response and the trouble you are facing with InDesign. If the issue is still not resolved we'd be happy to help troubleshoot. I would be really helpful if you could share a few more details along with the ones asked by gianttraining

  • Exact version of InDesign
  • When did this start happening? Are there any recent changes made to your system? For example, any antivirus, system updates or web extensions installed recently.

You may also try follwong these steps

Do you use any font managment software?
Have you installed any fonts into the PC manually ? or do you use a lot of Adobe Fonts ?

I have had a similar experience which was due to fonts and problems.
Also - is it the most up to date version of Indesign ?

Hi Bryan,

You may also try follwong these steps one by one. Crashing and unexpected behavior in application can be caused due to multiple reasons (like corrupt/ damaged preferences/ permission errors or conflicts with other applications). Please try following these steps and let us know how it goes:

  1. Reset Preferences:
  • Close all Adobe applications.
  • Go to Locations :
  • C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Adobe
  • C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Adobe.
  •  Rename InDesign folders to InDesign.old
  • Launch InDesign from CC.

Please note that resetting preferences will remove all the custom settings and InDesign will launch with default settings. This way all your old settings will be saved in .old folders and InDesign will recreate new folders with default settings.

  1. If that doesn't help, try booting the system into Safe Mode (https://support.microsoft.com/en-in/help/12376/windows-10-start-your-pc-in-safe-mode) and check how it works there. It starts your system so that it performs certain checks and prevents third party software/ services from automatically loading or opening. If it works fine in Safe mode, then there is some third party service or application like antivirus, plugins or web extensions which are conflicting with the InDesign.

  1.  If that doesn't help either, login to Hidden Admin account (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EfbMs3w-Z3s&t=53s). Check how the application works there. If it works fine there, then it could be related to permission errors. Follow these steps to repair permission errors:
Perform this procedure on each of the following folders:
  •  Open the File Explorer window. Click the View tab, and then select Hidden items.
  • Navigate to C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Adobe InDesign
  • In File Explorer, right-click the folder InDesign and choose Properties.
  • Click the Security tab, and then click Edit to set permissions.
  • In the Permissions dialog, select your user name. In the Permissions area, deselect the Deny check box.
  • Click OK twice.
  • Then go to C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe InDesign
  • Perform the same procedure again.
  • Launch Adobe InDesign.

  1. If nothing helps, then we need to troubleshoot this on a live session. Please head here (https://helpx.adobe.com/support.html) and select the chat button in the lower-right corner of the page. We can help on a live session that way.

Let us know if this helps or if you have any further questions. We'd be happy to help.

Regards,

Srishti
