InDesign does not respond or takes a very long time to respond to ever since my computer did a software update to macOS Catalina 10.15.6. I'm unable to quit, force quit and restart my computer sometimes because of the lagging. What can I do?

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about your experience. In addition to questions asked by Derek, would you mind sharing if this behavior only occurs with InDesign?

I'd request resetting the InDesign preferences once and see if it helps.

**Please note that resetting preferences will remove all the custom settings and InDesign will launch with default settings. You can also take a backup of the folders in case you want to. Location is mentioned in the article.

If it does not help, try logging into the root account (https://support.apple.com/en-in/HT204012). Check how application works there. If it works fine there, then it could be related to permission errors. Follow these steps to repair permission errors:

  • Go to Terminal (Go Utilities Terminal.app)
  • Execute the following command on terminal to provide permission:
    • sudo chmod -R 777 /Users/<user>/Library/Preferences/Adobe InDesign
    • sudo chmod -R 777 /Users/<user>/Library/Caches/Adobe InDesign
    • sudo chmod -R 777 /Users/<user>/Library/Application Support

Let us know how it goes. Looking forward to your response.

Regards,

Ashutosh
