Hi!

Since a couple of days I get an error notification when I want to open a document in Indesign.

"Indesign cannot open the file because it is no longer available". It's not just one document but a lot of documents that I need to recreate due this problem.

I haven't deleted any of these documents and they're not in the trash folder.

Thank you in advance, have a nice day!

Are you opening them from the Recent List in Indesign?

What happens if you open them from the folder on your computer - or using File>Open and navigate to the file?

Hi, thank you for the respons.

When I open the file via File-Open I get the following message: Cannot access "documentname.indd" This file name may contain one or more unknown characters. Change the file name in Windows Explorer and try again.

When I change the filename I get the same message unfortunately

Can you double click the file in Finder or Explorer?

Hi @Michelle5C99 ,

Your description points to you using the recent documents function.

Try the following:

  1. If the file was saved to an external or network drive, ensure that your computer still has access to it.
  2. Choose File menu and Open > Navigate to the location where you saved the file, and choose it.

Good luck and have a nice day too.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about this. Would you mind sharing version of the OS & InDesign?

You mentioned that when you try to open file directly from File Explorer/Finder, you are getting this error message. You may try copying the file on another location(preferably Desktop) and open it.

You may also share some sample files with us. We'll be happy to take a look.

Regards,

Ashutosh
