InDesign freezes while I am typing or pasting text

Just a follow up on my problems in the past with In Design: The reason InDesign sometimes crashes for me is because I use "balance columns", which for some reason (maybe because I use footnotes and keep options as well?) it will freeze the program. None of the four support people could help me with this over the past several months when it happened on different documents, though we dumped preferences, re-saved as a different file type, packaged, moved pages, recreated pages/documents, updated, uninstalled/reinstalled, deleted and turned off all my antiviral software, etc. They just said it was a corrupt file. It isn't. FYI - Adobe might check into that programming-wise. It is a "balance columns" problem.

This has happened to me when i have had corrupt or damaged fonts. Have you checked if it only happens with specific fonts? Interested to see and follow this up.
