Indesign letters bold when printed to pdf

When I print an InDesign file to pdf, the result is bolded, blurry letters.

 - These letters are in an area where there is transparency

 - I've made sure that the lettering is arranged at the "front" of all the frames

I'm a newbie to ID, so maybe I'm missing something.  But from what I can tell online, this has been an ongoing issue since 2009.  Any help is greatly appreciated!

First thing, try EXPORTING to PDF instead of printing.

Next, what application are you using to view the PDF? Not all readers are created equal, particularly when it comes to reading complex PDF structure.

When you export to pdf be sure to change the setting under compatibility to the latest version of acrobat too.

Reinforcing @Peter Spier's response, you never, repeat never, repeat yet again never should create PDF from InDesign by “printing” PostScript to be distilled into PDF. The resultant PDFs from such PDF creation don't maintain live transparency (the main reason for the bold, blurry letters due to flattening of transparency at low resolution) during PostScript creation and lose ICC color management.

Export PDF from InDesign, preferably using the PDF/X-4 joboptions (without any color transformations - use ICC color managment and let the renderer convert colors to the device's actual color space). Alternatively, use joboptions for at least PDF 1.5.
