InDesign Not Opening Images

When I try to open a file in InDesign I receive the message "Cannot open the file xyz.jpg. Adobe InDesign may not support the file format, the plug-in that supports the file format may be missing, or the file may be open in another application." I also saved it as a .png in PS and tried to open the png and I get the same message. I have uninstalled and reinstalled InDesign. I have also restarted my computer. Any other ideas?

You can't open image files, you have to place them.

The same way you'd do it in every other version...file >place.

And I might add that if you're having trouble with this, you're going to need some training or at the very least a good book.

Thank you. Yeah, I am a newbie and figured you could just drag and drop like PS. I am starting tutorials this week. Obviously I need them. Ha.

You can drag and drop but you need to do so with a document open.
